Introduction During Module One qualitative research was defined and compared to quantitative research. The characteristics of qualitative research were also described, as well as, ethnographic, foundational, ethical inquiry and critical social research. This module will continue with a discussion of historical research, grounded theory, phenomenological research and philosophical research. We will also discuss the varieties and features of qualitative research and begin to explore the nature of qualitative data. Another important topic, which is presented in this module, is a description of the qualitative research process. In qualitative research the research process is much different than that of quantitative research. It is not as complicated to describe and is strongly influenced by the method of data analysis. Understanding the Conceptual Framework Please read this article on "Understanding the Conceptual Framework" from the Financial Accounting Standards Board. Although, it specifically refers to the world of financial accounting, the basic principles related to constructing a conceptual framework are presented quite well. You will find it will be useful in completing the M2 Case Assignment.
