Over the last 60 years, leadership has been
examined by scholars from various perspectives. Scholars have examined
leadership in terms of traits, behaviors, and situations. More recently,
the terms transformational and transactional have been coined to describe
two distinct leadership approaches. These perspectives and approaches have
implicitly as well as explicitly guided the research in educational
leadership. This is where we will begin our study of the research in
educational leadership. In particular, in this first module we will
identify and examine the various perspectives of leadership and subsequent
models that have guided the research in this area.
